The Department of Medicine and Life Sciences (MELIS) is part of Pompeu Fabra University, a leading Spanish university. MELIS integrates innovation in education and research excellence and has been recognised as a “María de Maeztu” Unit in 2014 and in 2018. MELIS research programs' cover all areas of biomedical research, gathering a wide spectrum of knowleadge production and transference within the university. Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation

The Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI, Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació) is a private entity created in 1986 that disseminates research and innovation among society to promote scientific culture, scientific and technical vocations, public-private partnerships and entrepreneurship in this field.

Together with the Joan Oró Foundation, both organizations are organizing and promoting activities to commemorate Joan Oró, one of the most important scientists of the 20th century, who devoted his career to the study of the origin of life and discovered the abiotic synthesis of adenine in Houston. With his work, he has made significant contributions to various space missions, including NASA’s Apollo and Viking missions.

The Government of Catalonia officially declared 2023 as Joan Oró Year. The Winning Team for the Detecting Alien Life Challenge will be given the Joan Oró Award, which will be presented by the Joan Oró Foundation and FCRI during the Closing Day.

ISGlobal

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal, is the fruit of an innovative alliance between the "la Caixa" Foundation, academic institutions and government bodies to contribute to the efforts undertaken by the international community to address the challenges in global health.

ISGlobal is a consolidated hub of excellence in research that has grown out of work first started in the world of health care by the Hospital Clínic and the Parc de Salut MAR and in the academic sphere by the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. Its working model is based on the generation of scientific knowledge through Research Programmes and Groups, and its translation through the areas of Education and Training and Analysis and Global Development.

Its ultimate goal is to help close the gaps in health disparities between and within different regions of the world.

HABILIS

HABILIS is an educational content platform that was born after the merger of the cooperatives Abacus and Som* la cultura de tots, two leading organizations in Catalonia in their respective sectors: that of the distribution of innovative and quality educational products, and the of the creation of editorial content, with titles such as Sàpiens, el Petit Sàpiens, El món d'ahir, Descobrir, Cuina i Arrels.

MELiSSA

The MELiSSA Pilot Plant is an external laboratory of the European Space Agency located at theCampus of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The MELiSSA Pilot Plant is a facility of the MELiSSA project, and it is a unique site in Europe for the demonstration and integration of regenerative life support technologies for Space. The MELiSSA (Micro-Ecological Life Support System Alternative) project aims to develop a regenerative life support system for long-term human missions in Space, such as a base on the Moon or Mars
