All attendees, sponsors, partners, volunteers and staff at our hackathon are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organisers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect participants to follow these rules at all hackathon venues (online and offline), interactions in relation to the event, and hackathon-related social events.

Behave professionally at all times. Be kind to others. Behave politely and respectfully through in-person, email and social media interactions. Communicate any concerns or grievances with a courteous tone and language.

The intellectual property of what was developed during a hackathon is under the command of the intellect that generated it. Therefore, any novel solutions generated by hackers will be owned by hackers. However, the organisers will be unable to give any legal advice and support action when it pertains to intellectual property. We highly encourage hackers to record the process of developing your idea to prepare and provide appropriate documentation that will help protect your intellectual property rights. To ensure a just competition, each team must be respectful of all other teams.

The decisions you make from the moment you register for the event should be honest and truthful to the best of your ability. The teams’ final outputs must be their own, and not be plagiarized from any other source, including advisors or “unofficial” advisors. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of another’s words or ideas as if they are one’s own. Plagiarism and any kind of cheating (e.g.,  falsifying data, misrepresenting information) are grounds for dismissal from the competition and event.

Treat fellow participants with courtesy and respect. Respect any and all diversity (e.g,. gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, culture, identity, background, age, ethnicity, disabilities, family and work situations). Encourage different points of view and the rights of individuals to state them in an atmosphere where dissention is acceptable if delivered in a respectful manner.

Our hackathon is dedicated to providing a safe and comfortable environment for all participants regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, political views, previous hackathon attendance, lack of computing experience, or lack of chosen programming language or tech stack.

Do not insult or put down other attendees. Any form of discrimination, negative, threatening or off-color behavior of any kind will not be tolerated. The organisers will sanction or disqualify teams for any such behavior in its sole discretion. If you are being discriminated against, notice that someone else is being discriminated against, or have any other concerns, please contact the organisers using the reporting procedures defined below.

Harassment includes but is not limited to offensive verbal or written comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, social class, economic status, veteran status, sexual images, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. If what you’re doing is making someone feel uncomfortable, that counts as harassment and is enough reason to stop doing it.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Sponsors, judges, mentors, volunteers, organizers, and anyone else at the event are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, attendees should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material both in their hacks and during the event. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualised clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualised environment.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the organisers may take any action it deems appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event or online platforms being used during the hackathon with no eligibility for reimbursement, refund or swag of any type.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the organisers using the reporting procedures defined below.

If you feel uncomfortable or think there may be a potential violation of the code of conduct, please report it immediately using one of the following methods. All reporters have the right to remain anonymous.
